Are we still looking for the elixir of life?

Although science strives to be far less symbolic and more empirical the basic motivation to any research relies in the subjective features of the scientist. Since antiquity the motivation has been the same: to make ones life "complete". Today from science is produced technology, which (should) "enhance" the quality of life, which in the end just want to make us live more and more. Do you think all scientists have the major motivation to find the "elixir of life" (the "potion" that would make one live forever)?
