By "Masons" I take it you mean the Freemason secret society. I believe this to be true. With the skull and bones - it does represent death, however I'm not so sure that it is part of the whole occult thing. (It might possibly be though). As with the secret president book, I'm pretty sure that's just in a movie and not real.
